Bylaws Update 2025

In accordance with the Credit Union Governance Modernization Act, we are updating our Bylaws effective August 1, 2025. These changes permit the credit union to expel an individual from credit union membership under certain extreme circumstances, such as fraud or dangerous behavior.

Key Changes to Bylaws

Prior to these changes, the credit union could only expel an individual from membership following a two-thirds vote at special membership meeting. This left the credit union with little recourse in the event that a member ever became violent, abusive, or caused damage to credit union property.

The credit union will now be able to expel a member by a two-thirds vote of a quorum of the credit union’s Board of Directors, when there is cause. The Bylaws define “cause” as:

  • A substantial or repeated violation of the credit union’s Terms and Conditions or Membership Agreement
  • A substantial or repeated disruption, including dangerous or abusive behavior, to credit union operations
    • Including violence, intimidation, physical threats, harassment, and physical or verbal abuse of credit union officials, employees, members, or agents, while on credit union premises or related to credit union activities
    • Also including actions that cause or threaten damage to credit union property, or unauthorized use of or access to credit union property
  • Fraud, attempted fraud, or conviction of other illegal conduct in relation to the credit union, including the credit union’s employees.

Although we hope to never have cause to use this new remedy, this change will allow the Board of Directors to take action to protect credit union property, staff, and our members. Member expulsion can only be used in extreme circumstances, when other measures have proven ineffective, and the member being expelled will be given an opportunity to be heard.

By continuing to use your CFCU account and deposit or loan services on or after August 1, 2025, you agree to these amended Bylaws.
